Our story
How it started
Every surfer has the same problem after a session. You need to rinse off — your feet, your board, your wetsuit — and you end up doing it on the driveway with a garden hose balanced on your foot, or standing in a cracked plastic tub that came from a hardware store and lasted exactly one winter before it split.
We got tired of it. So we made one. Cut and welded it ourselves, tested it in the driveway, and it was immediately obvious this thing was exactly right. Not complicated. Not clever. Just a well-made aluminium tub that does one job perfectly.
The first one cost nothing to make and worked better than anything we could find to buy.
The material
Aluminium forms a natural oxide layer when it's exposed to air and water. That layer sits on the surface and slows corrosion — it doesn't disappear, it doesn't need to be maintained, and it doesn't require any coating or treatment.
Salt air doesn't destroy it. It just weathers. A well-made aluminium product will outlast everything around it. That's the whole reason we chose it — not because it looks good (though it does), but because it's the right material for something you want to keep forever.
We use 5052-H32 grade — a marine aluminium alloy specifically formulated for coastal environments. 3mm thick. Welded corners. Mill finish, deburred. That's it.
We made BCKT 01 because we needed one and couldn't find one worth buying. That's the only reason any BCKT product will ever exist — because we looked for it, couldn't find it, and decided to make it properly.
We will never make more than 10 products. Not because we can't, but because we don't want to. Every product we add has to earn its place. If it doesn't solve a real problem better than anything else, we don't make it.
Surf culture has always had a straightforward relationship with gear — it either works or it doesn't. We're making products for people who'd rather spend their money once on something that lasts than replace cheap plastic every couple of seasons.
What we stand for
Made once.
Kept forever.
Nothing more.
We're not building a brand. We're building a small collection of things people keep for life. BCKT 01 is first. There will be others — but only when they've earned it.
